Cutting For Stone By Abraham Verghese

While not the most exciting book, Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese kept my attention with the beautiful details surrounding a stark wandering character. However, I had some difficulty relating to the main character, as I believe may be caused directly due to several plot holes. Where is the main character going? What is the significance of the contrast between the ominous woods depicted and the character being dressed in white? Why do we never see the main character's face? Why would a grown man own a red umbrella? While some of these questions are never answered in the book, the progressive theme presents a clear message that we are all traveling somewhere. And I can certainly appreciate that positivity and encouragement that the author shares with the world.
